Down Mattress Pad

Down mattress pads are great on cold nights as the down feathers provide for much warmth and comfort.

Have you been tossing and turning and quite hesitant in purchasing another mattress? You may not need to if you look into getting a down mattress pad. This pad can be the perfect thing when you are in need of getting a good night’s rest without having to spend a nice chunk of money in purchasing another mattress. Down pads are great on cold nights as the down feathers provide for much warmth and comfort.

Purchasing a Mattress Pad

Make sure to not go with the cheapest option. The inexpensive down mattress toppers have a tendency to still have the quills of the feathers attached causing your pad to be quite uncomfortable. To avoid feathers poking you in the side and to keep the fabric from deteriorating, it is best to get a pad that does not have the quills attached and is in top quality.

When making your purchase, check to see if the pad is actually packed with down feathers to prevent a lumpy feel, which can lead to mattress shifting and uncomfortable rest.

If you buy a down mattress pad and within a few nights you are experiencing some type of back pain or stiffness, I would return this and purchase another brand that will fit your needs. The correct brand will definitely make a difference with you having a good night’s sleep.

Taking Care of Your Mattress Pad

Believe it or not, the less you clean this pad, the longer it will last. You should place some kind of cover over it to protect it from oils, dust and debris. The next thing you will need to do is shake it out weekly to unloosen the down feathers. You may want to periodically air your mattress pad outside to keep it nice and fresh. If you do not want to wash it at home, the dry cleaners would be able to do it(I would recommend to take it every 4 years or so); you can also use the over-sized washing machines at the laundromat for this purpose.

Before you decide to wash your down mattress pad, make sure to treat any type of stains. Always dry your comforter on a low setting and place a small ball or something that can move with your pad to help move and dry the down.

For storage, you want to make sure it is located in a well-ventilated area to prevent mildew.
