Down Feather Bed

A down feather bed is the ultimate in comfort, it is like sleeping on a cloud!

What is the first thing you think of when you hear the words – down feather bed?  Heavenly softness, perfect warmth, and an ‘oh so comfortable’ good night’s rest!  Down and feather mattress covers can give any old mattress a brand new life and you will sleep like a baby.

When choosing a down or feather mattress topper there a few things to keep in mind.  Make sure the cover is completely box stitched. When a mattress topper is box stitched the down will stay within the stitched-in box.  Some toppers have only a partial box stitch or no box stitching, this allows the down to shift during use so it all settles to the edges of the topper.  It is very difficult to get the down to move back into place once it has shifted.  Many feather mattress toppers will have stitching that is not in a box configuration, as long as it will contain the down into small compartments it will be fine.  This is one of the most important factors in choosing a down mattress pad, you do not want the down to shift!

No one likes to have a feather poking them while they are trying to sleep!  This is easily prevented if you choose the right type of cover for your down or feather bed.  Remember, just like sheets the higher the thread count the better! A higher thread count makes for a denser weave, so it is harder for a feather to poke through.  The quality of the cover is just as important as the quality of the fill power.

Wait! What is fill power? Just like thread count, the higher the fill power the finer the quality.  A higher fill power means a larger down cluster, and when the down cluster is larger it will last longer and not break down as quickly.  As a result, a higher fill power feather bed will give you comfort and support longer.  It may be more expensive, but it will be a better value in the long run.

The classic feather bed is usually a 75% feather/25% down blend made into a three channel design. These are big, fluffy feather beds that wraps you in cozy warmth. Because of the high feather content you are more likely to have feathers poke through so you will want to have a high thread count on the cover or cover it with a fitted sheet after you put it on your bed. Just make sure you use a deep pocket fitted sheet so you won’t lose any of that great, cozy fluffiness!

A goose down feather bed is called a feather bed, but has more down than feather so it is luxuriously soft. Because down is smaller than feathers it takes more to make a down mattress topper. Because of that fact, a goose down father bed will cost more.  But once you melt into it’s softness price won’t matter!

There are a lot of down and feather mattress toppers on the market, but once you pick out the perfect down feather bed for you you will not be sorry!
